  • Planning for the glorious year ahead

Been to the lottie today. Can't believe that the purple sprouting brocolli cropping since september is still going strong and that the leeks that looked beyond redemption are now fabulous ( both on the stove, alongside swede and parsnip harvested toady, for tea as we speak)

I'm inspired to start my planning in earnest for the coming year. I'm just wondering what I can plant in an area that will eventually be home to my squashes. What can I use the space for not radishes I really dislike them.

Also wondering when to plant shallots

Thanks for all your help, really excited for this my second season

Shallots sets can be planted anytime the soil isn't frozen, but be careful cos there is a cold spell forecast for next week, I think

You could plant some lettuce.... down here I get an early pea crop before my squash (started in pots) are planted out. I start the peas off under fleece in mid-March - but I'm not sure about your weather...
