    Pink Fir Apples, slow to sprout

    Is it normal for PFA's to be slow to chit/sprout?

    I bought my PFA seeds from a garden centre and chitted them for a month - hardly sprouted at all. Popped them in buckets three weeks ago and covered with an inch or so of soil and they are still not sprouting - I had a look under the soil today and there are healthy looking roots coming out.

    I've found they don't chit indoors at all.

    They don't need to though: they're a late maincrop. None of my spuds have shown yet, but it's been so cold for so long that I'm not surprised

        mine have just starting growing now, and they've been in the ground a couple of weeks.

          Mine did chit, but rather slowly. As mentioned above, it isn't necessary for them to chit as they are a (late) maincrop potato.
          Spelling errors are my area of expertise. Apologies if my jumbled up mind/words cause offence.

                The best success I have had with spuds was PFA grown in buckets, you've just reminded me. I'll have a look for some today.

                  Mine had teeny chits but nothing like the nice fat ones the other tatties had but this is no different to other years and they still produce loads of lovely spuds.

                  Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                  Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
