  • Peppers

    Hi all,
I've had 4 huge green peppers from the greenhouse, and now, on one of the plants there are black peppers growing which are even bigger and look slightly red. Are these going to be red peppers and, if so, do I leave them to go red on the plant, or do I pick them and let them go red?

I have read that if you pick peppers when they are still green they will not turn red but not heard about black peppers at all.

      Hi Crafty
You can do either. If you pick them and keep them in the fridge, they'll go red faster but the flavour won't be as good as ones left on the plant to ripen properly (they take slightly longer to go red but are much sweeter).

Peppers often go black or do black patches as they turn red.

Thanks Red Pepper, I've never known peppers to go red after they were picked, never tried it. I'll pick a few and see how they get on.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
