    Pepper and chilli plants please

    Ok i won't tell you the ridiculous amount of pepper and chilli plants i have, i hang my head low very very low. I blame the seed companies for putting far too many seeds in the packet, if a packet comes with 50 seeds well what do they think i am going to do with them all

    Anyways i have got some sweet minimix, redskin and mohawk. I know they seem to be little plants but in medium to good conditions what am i to expect from these plants. 10 fruits, 20? It will depend on how many plants i give away. The photo looks like the plant produces loads.
    I do have a long grow season and have them a different ages, 3 months, 2 months and 1 month old.

    Also any advice on how close i can grow them will be greatly appreciated

    I'm really hoping I'm in the minority I tried redskin and Mohawk last year in a morrisons pot in a south/East garden and the yields were pathetic I think I got 3 tiny peppers of each plant

      I've grown redskin in a greenhouse before in the SE. I got around 7-8 smallish peppers. In Spain you could probably increase this yield due to the increased length of your season. The pictures of plants on the seed packets always seem to show 15-20 peppers and look much more impressive than my specimens.

      Don't know about the other varieties you mentioned. I always grow the bog standard California Wonder sweet pepper and get around 6-8 big peppers. A bit boring but predictable and tasty all the same!

        I used to grow redskin too, in pots in the conservatory. The produced very small but sweet peppers which we ate in salads. Don't bother anymore though as, being small plants they didn't produce much. Don't think I got much more than half a dozen off each plant.

        Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

        Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

          I grew mohawk in 2013 in the greenhouse of course. And I had STACKS of them.

          I suspect over the entire season I pulled 70 - 100 peppers off the one plant.

          Here are the only 2 pics I could find.

          Just found a 3rd pic! There are at least 20 peppers visible...

            Why did you not grow last year? was it taste. i have planted the whole 7 seeds so don't want to be disappointed.

                hi chilli_grower,
                please, please can you give me some tips on how to get more than two or three peppers/chillies from each plant.
                I love peppers and chillies but never seem to get many on each plant, what is the secret?

                  I did not grow last year, as I was experimenting with other varieties.

                  Perhaps I was just lucky...

                  All I do is use a big pot, and keep plants on the drier side of moist. I fed occasionally once flowering began...

                    I'm trying Trapez this year it's meant to be good for outside production Sweet Pepper Trapez - 12 Seeds - Free P&P on Orders Over £50 . Hopefully I will get a decent crop! The only ones I've ever been successful with are the mini bells! Strange as my chilli's always do well.

                      If you want to increase your yield, deffinately use a bigger size pot, people often wonder why they don't get good ammounts of chillies/peppers and the fact is that the pots are too small. I would say about a 10 litre pot should be okay

                        Novice chillie grower here. Would a Morrisons flower bucket be ok for chillies? How big do the plants grow?

                          I reckon they are approximately 9 to 10L so maybe!

                            I use flower buckets.

                            Perfect in my opinion, don't forget to drill drainage holes!

                            I usually drill a dozen or so 10mm holes....

                              I've only ever used Morrisons Buckets for my chilli's. They are always at the front of the store underneath a display table whenever I go!
