  • Peas and pigeons

I had 2 lovely rows of mangetout peas - 1 3 ft high and i just coming through. The pigeons have made a right mess of the first row - battered them and taken out the growing points and eaten the shoots from all the new row.

What can I do to deter them? I havenetting over the brassicas but can't net the whole garden. And will my peas recover?

I have to net my peas to stop the little nuisance sparrows feasting on them. They even sit on the nets and try to get at them down the sides. Little nuisance birds

      Peas and pigeons

Yes, lovely as they are, they can be a nuisance. I HAVE netted mine - now. If the question of netting is cost, try the charity shops for net curtains.

An alternative to nets is to not weed your pea patch. Let the weeds grow up round the peas, and the birds won't find them.
