    peas in the grrenhouse

    have been meaning to ask about peas. Can you grow them in a greenhouse as mine didn't do well at all. had about 15 pods which were eaten right there and then. they were very thin and only got to about 2ft then started to turn brown and dry at the bottom. if they are not good in the greenhouse is it still ok to sow some now for the garden?

    They are a cool climate crop so I wouldn't grow them in the greenhouse. I would think you could still just get away with sowing more - they will grow away faster than they do in spring.

      As Flum says. Peas don't like temps above 20C...greenhouse would be way too hot for them.

        You should still get away with sowing peas now - I sowed 100m of Hurst Greenshaft last wek and I plan another sowing of Kelvedon Wonder in a fortnight. The KW, being an early, grows quicker and shoud be able to supply fresh peas in Sept / Oct - weather dependent of course.

          My dad grew peas in his pollytunnel this year. They grew well, he started to get peas in april. He has a mouse in there and it didn`t eat to many.
          I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

            Last winter I grew oregan sugar snap and kelvedon wonder in the greenhouse and had a good early crop. I plan to sow more peas outside now for a late harvest.

              I sowed some Kelvedon Wonder a week or so ago and it is up already, so we should have peas through to early autumn with a bit of luck.
              I'm trying Meteor as overwintering peas for early next year (to be sown in autumn), as recommended by someone on here - sorry can't remember who...

                I grew some hurst greenshaft last year in my polytunnel about this time of year and they were exceptional.

                You just need to keep them really well watered.

                  Thanks guys. Went to get some seeds and was very confused with the amont to choose from. Ended getting 'Rondo'. No idea if this was right choice. have sown them and there just in my back garden. suppose they would be better putting them in the greenhouse until they come up?
