  • Pea plants turning yellow

After planting my early peas they have turned yellow, I am wondering if a mineral deficiency as area was flooded during rains but I also have them in an area that had well rotted horse manure on surface , any ideas.

Where did you start your peas off? Did you hardened them off before planting out? They might just be a bit cold if they were somewhere cosy straight to outside. You could try giving them a high nitrogen liquid feed to give them as bit of a boost.

When you say they have turned yellow do you mean the leaves or the whole plant?

If they are mainly in well rotted manure this could be your problem. it's happened to me where there isn't enough soil around the roots for them to get a purchase. the manure has to many air pockets and the roots don't seem to pull in any nutrients or water and they just dry out.
This is my theory and when I tried again and made sure there was enough soil and manure around the roots, they seemed to thrive.
I'm no scientist, it just worked for me, so i'm just passing this one on. If anyone can enlighten us any better it would be very welcome. Good luck with the Peas.

My peas were hardened off so I like Vegnuts theory as the few I placed in polytunnel are going same way, those I planted straight in ground look quite green
