  • Past it?

    I was tidying up a box of stuff a couple of weeks ago and found a packet of beetroot seeds that needed planting within a year of purchase apparently.

    I obviously hadn't bought them this year

    So I thought 'stuff it, let's give it a shot and see what happens' and planted them.

    Well so far, I have 11 seedlings through

    Not so exciting you may think....except that the date they were to expire was 1988

    So...I have baby beetroots that are already 21 years old

        That's brilliant! I was well chuffed at getting germination for 4 year old cucs, but 21 year old beets!!!

          I thought I was doing well when I sowed pumpkin seeds with an expiry date of 2000 and all of them germinated and are growing well in fact I had to give some away! Well done!!

            This is a picture as promised of my 21 year old beetroots! Not sure how many there are now but there are quite a lot and all flourishing beautifully!

            I'll let you know what they taste like when I roast them with garlic and goats cheese...Yyuuummmm.....
