  • Own grown sweet potato slips slow?

I suspended three of my own saved tubers in water as per some really good video on you tube. One of them has grown roots and has had tiny leaf buds (less than 1cm) since before Christmas but they just don't seem to be growing very fast at all. The other two tubers went in after Christmas, they have grown lots of roots but I can't see any sign of leaf burst from any of the potential "nodes".

I have moved them under a grow lamp today with a bit of gentle heat in case there wasn't enough to get them going before but I'd be grateful for any other advice to get them going. On the video they just shot away and could be split off after about three weeks!

    Diolch.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!

All my slips are really slow - I started them ages ago, but so far, only have a few white roots and no green growth whatsoever. I'm tempted to start over!

Mine took 6-8 weeks before any shoots started, I now have 7 small slips, that I think I'll pot up soon...

then its gone back into the water to sprout some more!

Mine was just left on the kitchen table.

        ..keep waiting!

Probably. It can take months to get a Tuber to sprout and make slips (I think more particularly if you buy a tuber in the Supermarket as they are often treated to STOP them sprouting!)

Buy a plant in the local garden centre for this year perhaps? and then keep your own tubers for next year's slips.

I'm getting a bit antsy as my tubers show very limited progress - a few wispy white roots in the water, but no green growth whatsoever.

Should I order slips online in this case?
