  • Overwintered chilli plant has tiny leaves

This is the first year I have overwintered chillies.

One plant is doing fine and is well away, the other, a cayenne of some type, looks healthy enough, although it has taken a long time to get fruit growing on it. But it has really tiny leaves.

I've fed it, watered it the correct amount as far as I can tell, it's been outside in this lovely weather we've been having.

Have I done anything wrong? Too much feed, the wrong type of feed (home made comfrey and nettle stuff), too much water?

How much water have you actually given it?

Did you water it differently over winter?
The proof of the growing is in the eating.
    Leave Rotten Fruit.
    Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
    Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!

I didn't water it much over winter at all, same as the other one.

How much water have I given it now?
Well...... enough I hope, too much maybe, whenever it looked dry.

I don't normally over-winter chillis but I had a small plant that had been left over from my main batch and was neglegleted last season but ended up stuck on a windowsill over winter rather than being thrown away.

I don't think it was watered at all over winter or spring but it started to regrow leaves this spring and I started to tend it a bit better.

Since I started to tend for it it has basically stopped growing!!

At the moment I'm not watering it much and haven't fed it but I think flower buds are just starting. However all the leaves are small like yours!

Like you, I've been wondering why!!!

I think the roots failed to develop well last season and probably died off this season due to initial lack of water.

It has been with my normal chillis for the last few weeks and I'm treating it the same and just going to see what happens!
