in a recent thread i asked about growing celery. the results not looking good. a good compromise seemed to be celeriac, lovage and a herb cutting celery.

i was looking through kings seed catalogue the other day and saw a section on oriental veg.

Seeds, Herbs and Bedidng Plants from Kings Seeds

some are familiar and i've eaten pak choi (not unlike celery i suppose) but never grow any. they seem pretty hardy if they need to be and sound easier to grow and good replacements for some difficult to grow(because of disease etc) british plants eg cabbage. i believe the japanese onions are good too

does anyone grow these kinds? what success? am i missing something here?

Pak Choi is very quick and easy Greendean. It's a cool weather crop and does best spring and late autumn. I find it bolts in summer.
I've grown a few varieties but liked Mei Quing Choi and red or white canton best.

I've grown Mizuna, also quick and easy and pretty hardy.
You could give them a go.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Pak Choi, mizuna, mibuna and chinese cabages are all easy to grow but as Alice said they are cool season crops-spring, late summer and autumn. My mibuna has only just stopped producing a victim of the sharp frosts.

          thanks for that folks

they all sound worth a try

it is so easy to stick to the same things yet trying new things never killed anyone
