  • Organic plot - how do I set up soil

    Hi

I'm setting up a organic plot and was wondering what soil to use and how to put it together? I have a local farm that is willing to give me free manure and I just wanted to know if I should just rack up my garden soil and mix in the manure or should I also add something else?

    Thank you in advance,

    Sophie

Is the farm you will get the manure from an organic farm.

If not, they will have used chemicals on the feed the cows eat and so the manure will not be organic.

Many people ignore this little "oversight" and are comfortable using it anyway but a true organic gardener would not.

Do what you are comfortable with.
The proof of the growing is in the eating.
    Leave Rotten Fruit.
    Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
    Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!
Il n'est si méchant pot qui ne trouve son couvercle.

Personally Sophie, I'd either do some reading around to find out the extent of organicness that you want to go to....or use the well rotted manure and get planting and work out the rest as you go.

You don't need to add anything else, and you don't need to add manure where you are planning to grow carrots. And the manure should be 'well rotted' and not fresh.

Apart from that, you've got a great start there.

You also need to check the manure for weed killer, check out Aminopyralid Herbicide Residue in Manure Killing Crops | Allotment Growing Diary Plus for more info
