  • Onion advice wanted.

I've just picked up a 300g bag of Setton onion sets for 19p a bag. Is it worth putting them out in autumn or can I store them till next spring. Thanks in advance.

a bit late for planting bigmally they should have been planted in late march or so i would sit them aside for next year. why not plant them out next march or april and if they grow fine if not just get some fresh ones if you want to plant onions this year your better bet would be get autumn variety and plant them in october

I was given a left over bag of Hercules onion sets and planted them on 17/7 where the first early potatoes had been. They seem to have grown very quickly and if we have a reasonable summer I expect them to be ok. Try planting some now and hedge your bets in case they dry up and don't make it till next spring.

at 19p a bag, I think you can afford to take a few risks with them, right?

Cut the top and the basal plate off each and pickle them!
