  • One more spud question...

I have just watched a few vids re: planting spuds in tubs etc...

They all say that it is best to occasionally top up the soil/compost content as the foliage grows...

My question is: How far up the 'stalk' is okay to top up to?

Should I stop at the first set of leaves?

I have always thought it was bad for any plant to bring soil too far up the stalk/stem??

Once again, all advice much appreciated...

    Cliff.

Good advice on that link. However, when the first shoots show through, it's usually only April - so I earth right up at that point - cover them completely - because you're dead certain (round here, anyway) to get hit by a frost and that new foliage will go black and crispy. Horrid!
