  • Old multicompost

Most of my flowers and veg are container grown. Having spent a small fortune on compost this year with very little return I want to re-use it. I guess I can replenish the nutrient but how can I get rid of any bugs that may be lurking?

Steam it with a wallpaper stripper? Or, less extreme, spreead it out over a tarpaulin or the ground, so that the birds can pick through it

How about a zap in the microwave- a bit at a time- or stick it in the oven to heat through??
      Little bit now and then.

....or the chemical option is to use dilute ***** fluid....

Or add it to your compost heap?...although you need a biggish and really hot heap to kill off some nasties and seeds. You can reduce your compost bill by making your own/bulking up any commercial stuff you use. Making leafmould or stacking turf for topsoil content are also excellent sources.

Personally, I only really bother with shop bought sterilized compost for seedsowing.

Good idea: it might be full of slug eggs and vine weevils, etc

Thank you. I will give these a suggestions a go. I have noticed I get more leaf nibbling etc in the gh so it could be a breeding ground for nasties. I have bought the spray version of ***** to give the shed a clean but as this is probably diluted already I may invest in the proper stuff.
