  • Oh-oo-oh-oo OKRA

This is my first year trying Okra and I planted 6 seeds about 3 weeks ago (mid Feb) in a heated propagator. 100% germination within days and seedlings shot up to about 4" (which looks a little stringy but the stems seem strong) but they still have only two leaves. Now two have died and I'm wondering why - temperature in the propagator vacillates from about 14 - 22 degrees night-day and there's plenty of light - they haven't dried out or anything. All other seedlings in the same conditions (chillies, toms, aubs etc) thriving. Any advice anyone?

Thanks a lot - so they don't like the heat? I have them in a heated propagator in a polytunnel though - will they not freeze? It's still fairly cold out there at night...

Maybe you started a little early? Heated propagators are great for germination, but once through the seedlings need cooler conditions but still frost protection. I always time my sowings for tender seeds/plants so that I have room for them either indoors or in the greenhouse once germinated and potted on

Can Okra only be grown in a greenhouse? It is used in Indian cooking and India is HOT!!!!
