Anyone know why my little round Butternut squashes behind the flowers are falling off and going yellow? What date do they usually fruit at? The flowers seem much tighter than Marrow flowers and harder to hand polinate!

    Thanks

They are obviously not being pollinated, and if the flowers are tight I think you are trying to pollinate them before they are ready.

They don't have a specific date for fruiting (is that what you meant?)

If it's too cold then they won't be pollinated (bees don't fly in the cold) or the fruit/flower will rot rather than grow.
It's too late in the year now for fruiting, if you have any fruits that are big enough but not ripe then pull off the foliage to allow the sun to reach the fruit.

No, none just ones that are just starting. Didnt move for about 4 months then suddenly developed flowers.

I've had loads of flowers but none of them have turned into fruit - they just disappear. Same problem with my courgettes. Should I have hand pollinated them? They all looked like male flowers though. Was this due to the weather or have I done something wrong?

I checked at the weekend and have several squashes that are just putting out male flowers.

            Another strange 2012 oddity.

Another hand up here. I have three butternut plants that are only just producing flowers, but my courgettes have all but finished (not disappointed though, I've had loads of lovely fruits from the Zephyr).

Same here, I have five butternut squash plants all of which are now beginning to flower and all seem to be male flowers.

Courgette is going crazy though loads and loads of fruit off the one plant - I have hand pollinated this year though.
