  • nowt to crow about

I was looking out at the veg patch the other day (it was raining) and I could see a crow rooting about and when I went there to look I found that the crow had pulled out 2 rows of very small pea seedlings and a row of late sown French beans, all the seedlings were lying shrivelled on the surface, I shoved them back in but don't hold out much hope of them surviving/thriving but I have to give them a chance. has anyone else come across this problem? I would not have known what caused this if I had not seen it happening, I guess he thought them to be worms....

Crows can be a pain - they eat all sorts of things including vegetables, hence people putting up scarecrows in fields. They are also apparently extremely intelligent.

We have one that comes into the garden and takes the frogs out of the pond, we couldn't believe it when we first saw it!

I've had one take goldfish from our garden pond. Again wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Took the two biggest too!

Where I used to work on a hot summers day we had a crow that used to knock on the door over and over until you opened it and he'd come and sit in the air con reception area for five minutes then knock on the door to go out again (may have got a telling off from the bosses for letting wild animals into the office though &#128535
