  • Nothing is germinating, what am I doing wrong?

    Hi grapes.

Long time no speak I know but need you advice.

I have got 2 heated props and a 'blowaway' I have sown about 50 seeds in the heated prosp (chillis and toms) and I only have 7 seedlings

Obviously nowt in the blowaways has germinated due to the darn weather!

This time last year I have 2 blowaways rammed full of germinated seedlings.

I am using John Innes seed compost and making sure the seeds are not too wet or too dry.

    Whats going on?????

How long ago? How fresh was the seed?

Nearly 10 days ago and some were last years seeds (they seemed to have the best germination) and some were bought last month.

Chillis will take more than 10 days.

Toms should be up in a week, but if it's just been 10 days I'd not panic yet.

But some of the chillis cames up a few days ago and they are now getting leggy!

Will some seeds (from the same packet) germinate faster than others?

            Absolutely!

This is why I sow a pinch into those tiny pots and as soon as I see one, it gets whipped out of the prop and put onto a tray in the kitchen in full sun.
