BUILD FRUIT CAGES SO THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!!!
Mr and Mrs Blackbird, though doing sterling work in the slug and snail removal business obviously like to finish their meals with a fresh fruit dessert. IE My blackcurrants and blueberries. Must get some caging built before the autumn raspberries start coming good.
What are you planning for later on?

This weekend I couldn't resist buying a micromesh cover

reduced to £12.50 at my local garden centre, which I thought was a bargain, but I'm not forking out nearly 40 quid for the frame, so I'll have to make one. There was a video on here somewhere, building one from wood and piping, so I'll have to have a search for it.

I have a cat now... (for the moment anyway, as she belongs to my eldest, whose between houses atm)....she tends to keep birds off my blueberries etc. Last year I netted them & strawbs, then hung CDs above them. Seemed to work.

Hmm, I netted last year when I was in my other garden just haven't got round to doing it this year. I have hung up the lids of several catering sized fruit tins which not only reflect the light, they clang together in a most pleasing way when the wind blows. Mr and Mrs Blackbird find the noise very soothing as they enjoy their fruit!

Oooh, get you! Walk-in fruit cages are my Nirvana.

One of them is tubular framed. The other is made using steel post fixings with 3" x 8ft posts. Chicken wire arounf the perimeter with a gate and fruit netting over the top. Cost a few quid but well worth the outlay. Saves stooping whilst navigating amongst the fruit.

                  Ditto that.

Ever noticed that your 'to do' list always comes after OHs 'to do' list ?

I even drew my OH a lovely detailed diagram of a 6ft tall mangetout cage (collapsable for easy storage over winter) which would be a doddle for him to make AND would only take a matter of hours (unlike the 'shed' he built to house the Series 2 landy which took several weekends to build) .

Yet here I am, still fighting the awful pea netting and bamboo cane structure to harvest the mangetout!!!!

Sorry Reet - but being married to a Landy addict myself, my only advice is "Don't hold yer breath!"
