    Not a white butterfly's offspring...

    Apart from the usual velvety green caterpillars hiding on the veins of my PSB, I've also got short, quite segmented grubs, often with a little silk over them, nestling where the leaves almost fold over. The appear singly, are about 1/2 an inch long, and quite pointed.

    Do we know what they are? Do I need to worry about them, over and above the usual squish or flick patrols I'm doing?

        Could they be hoverfly larvae?

          Oh damn. Yes, they look like the browner specimens.... but they've been eating the leaves, though? Oh, I do hope I haven't been squishing hoverfly babies...

            They shouldn't have been eating the leaves, if they are hoverflies. I made the same mistake with some on my white currant bush, which I found alongside sawfly larvae, who definitely were eating leaves.
