  • Not a happy boy.

I bought a packet of gardeners delight toms last Feb from T&M.

Now I have 6 fine plants covered in tomatoes, but they aint gardeners delight, the tomatoes are large and fewer than G delight, I would say they are full size rather than cherry.
Has anyone else suffered this problem (either with this variety, or any seeds) and how the hell can I tell what variety these are? The only noticable thing is that the green tomatoes have dark green stripes within them.

    Oh no

I had a bad pack of seeds with zero germination but to be fair unwins set me 2 packs as replacements.

Could your variety be Tigerella with the stripes?

I've had mislabelling issues with this company before. Last year I grew some blue nemesia. Only they were pink and mauve. They sent me replacements but again they aren't blue.
Presumably the tomatoes you have are from their current range. You could see which stripy ones they stock to narrow it down. Also do you still have the packaging? The inner foil often has an abbreviated name on it. It might be a case of the wrong foil pack in the paper pack.

Browsing tbeir website the only stripy tomato they do of that size is Tigerella.

One year my spring cabbages were all kohl rabi. Very annoying but people make mistakes although we are less and less allowed to
As for the variety, hopefully an unexpected treat, although possibly not if they green zebra which it sounds like.

Thompson & Morgan are members of the Vine so, if you write their name in full, instead of T&M they may spot your post and offer some advice.
Hmmmm, thinks............you don't have to do that because I've just done it for you

I've got gardeners delight too... cant remember where I got the seeds from now but the germination rate was awful and the toms are definitely getting past cherry tomato size and definitely no signs of turning red!

They're not stripy but are dark green on top (almost a ring around the stalk) and light green everywhere else - I thought that was just me / the weather though!

Doesn't sound quite right, but gardener's delight are the big end of the cherry spectrum...

I had a pack of Red Alert last year (can't remember the supplier), sowed enough for a bed. Right in the middle of the bed there grew a massive plum tomato. Mix up's do occur although so far I haven't had a full wrong pack. Seems quite common with tomatoes for some reason.

I will photograph them tomorrow someone may recognise them. I often think what a nightmare it must be in a seed sorting factory, like for instance all tomato seeds look the same do they not, so if you mix them up it is irreversible. But thats their job and other companies seem to manage ok. I am actualy very annoyed, I have sungold, gardeners delight and shirley, regarding going ripe its a nice progression. or was going to be.

Well here is a pic, they are quite big, much bigger than gardeners delight, the biggest is probably 2 inches across. Having looked on the net for tigerella i think this is what they are.

Now the thing is apart from my sungold I have no ripe tomatoes, these look like they will take some time yet. Can I sue T&M? It has probably ruined my rugby playing career and i am finding it hard to play the piano through the stress.
If T&M say its an accident and send me another packet of seeds could I get in touch with Accident helpline ?

                            Giving Bill an awful fright,
You should be a G Delight,
Ask T&M to put it right

I've got a similar problem with my black cherry, out of the 10 plants only one was a black cherry plant, don't know what the rest where, but nice toms still.
Would have thought with a big company like TandM there would not be any mix up. Let us know if they send you something
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them
