  • No tomatoes yet...

Ok, strictly speaking this should appear in the fruit section, but bear with me.

I have 4 tomato plants in a grow bag on my patio at the top of the garden. There are a number of clusters of flowers, but no toms as yet.

    I'm too late aren't I?

Eeks at least you have a new job - congrats btw! Move them into a greenhouse or tomato tent? Feed daily with an AberdeenPlotter recommended weakened strength tomato feed.

Congratulations on your new job Wayne, I must have missed that post! I tried to drown my tomatoes (accidentally) early on in the season and I thought they wouldn't recover. With encouragement from Zaz and Taff I persevered and they are all flowering. I only have a few fruit as yet, but there's still time surely? Hope we both get some fruit.

Flipping heck-I hope it's not too late..... I've got lots of flowers and only a few tiny toms on my 34+ plants!!!!!

Unfortunately we've been very distracted from the veg plot and the 'armpits' seem to have taken over...I'm going to be optimistic...yup!

I thought i only had flowers on the ones outside, but some are looking decidely green and rotund now, so always hope. And there's always jam or chutney, or the odd banana lying around for inspiration...
Can you stick them in some kind of shelter? even one made from old windows or something...

Don't give up - they will eventually ripen - and if you need to give them a hand, buy a load of bananas and hang them amongst the plants!

won't work the same outside as the ethylene gas given off by the bananas will disperse to easily.

And you need the fruit before the bananas actually work....

What's "armpitting" - is this some tomato related deviant behaviour?

                          That sounds violent.

I'll google it - I've only ever bunged tomato plants in, let them grow and see what happens....*

*which arguably could be said about all I grow.

All my toms have set fruit now, I just have to keep on top of the armpits and make sure no more trusses grow...I have my first two beefsteaks ready, will post a pic tomorrow, one of them is HUGE! feed them every 10 days or so. They don't get full sun but they are very warm against a white wall with another wall just by them...

Poisoned all my tomatoe plants, I gave them a top dressing of Blood Bone and fish, and I must have overdone it and they just shrivelled. Its not too bad, cos I've been getting ripe fruit since the middle of May (heated GH), but its still annoying me that I could have been so stupid.
