    Not sure how many would take up a 'temporary allotment'. Just imagine spending a few seasons getting it up to scratch and then watching it get concreted over.

    They should be creating proper, permanent allotments.

      Aye, that's Goverment for you - knee jerk reaction to populist calls for action - with very little thought given to the long-term outomes. Could always grow in containers and move around at will - and a grant scheme for the purchase of containers done through a scrappage scheme of your old containers!

        Brilliant idea, this is the sort of thing I am trying to get started in Wolverhampton. Community farm with temporary portable animal shelters and fences.
        I just can't get the council to let me have temporary use of the land just in case they can get planning permission to build on it.
        Eveb though it is agricultural land within a green belt and they haven't had it granted in the 15 years of trying.
        I shall forward this article to the man in charge !
