  • New forum for container veg growers?

Is there any interest (I'm sure there is!) in another forum being opened for people like me who can only grow veg/fruit in containers? I have a roof garden in London that I am turning over to veg and fruit and would really like to chat to others in the same situation or with more experience than me. I already grow apples, a plum, a fig, tomatoes, etc but this year I'm going for runner and French beans, cucumber, courgette and many more.

I've been gardening (flowers!) for over 25 years but feel like a novice when it comes to veg and would really appreciate some support as I'm sure others would too. We all need to use whatever space we've got to grow our own.

    Over to you, administrators!

It's been debated many a time and was discussed only recently.....as has an experimental board....we're still working on it.

That reminds me of the old story of someone going into a shop to ask for something only to be told that they were the fifth person to ask for it but it's not stocked because there's no demand!
I think there's a message there.... Don't get left behind GYO!

We agree.....which is why we are working on it.

The problem you get with some forums is that they end up with 1001 different parts of the board and nobody knows where to post, for example if you had a query about growing courgettes which you grew in a pot would you put it in the general veg growing area where it would potentially get a bigger audience and therefore a greater chance of a useful reply or would you put it in a subset directory just for container growing? I'm of the oppinion that things can get very confused if we open new areas all the time and the mods are right to consider it carefully.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Could you not try starting a thread in the veg forum entitled container growing and invite people to share their experiences on that rather than it being a question thread?

I was going to suggest the same. If there was a thread called this it would probably be very popular. Even those of us with gardens, GH's and raised beds still make use of container growing as well.

                        That's exactly the reason Alison.

We have separate threads for experiments which are kept as stickies for the duration under 'vegging out', but alot of the advice for general also counts for container....and if people search 'container gardening' then many posts will be found which should help. If someone wants to start a 'container gardening' thread, we will stick it and see how popular it is before adding a whole new board.

There already is rather a large thread for Container Growing that was started last year. I'll see if I can find it. Also, there is a Social Group for Container and Raised Bed gardeners

I have found that if I have a container specific query, (and I have lots of queries) I just post it and people answer. Nice and simple
