  • nematoads?

    Hello

I was just wondering how they work?
I understand you have to make a mixture and poor it.
    But how dose it work?
Do the parasites only infect what they touch, of can they thrive and expand?

My plot is completely infested and need a little helping hand with them.
I have toads ducks and chickens, but being honest the chickens would rather eat my crops then look under them for slugs

Just trying to Gage whether they are worth the money.

Best wishes and sorry if I spelt nematoads wrong

    Hi there
I've used nematodes for slugs and it worked incredibly well in my slug infested back garden for a good couple of years after treating it. I believe the nematodes seek out the pests, enter their bodies and kill them from inside. Not very romantic is it, but definitely very effective.

That's my experience as well. The nematodes are microscopic worm like beasties. They are delivered dry and require to be added to water and then small quantities of that solution are diluted further ready for application via a watering can. I've found them most effective in my tattie beds where they are applied at the earthing up stage. It certainly sorts out the keeled slugs which can do incredible damage to spuds.

There are quite a lot of opinions on using nematodes on the above thread. From what you say, you are looking at the ones against slugs, not vine weevils or caterpillars?
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
