It looks familiar....and I think I've eaten it too... but helpfully
....I can't think of it's name! It's not Good King Henry is it? Stick around though. an expert will be along shortly....

Hmmm..not sure but the leaves are similar to spinach and sorrel ...which makes me wonder if pipscariad is right!
Are you sure you can eat it??
Also looks a bit like that plant with red flowers which the hummingbird moth loves.

Looks a bit like Good King Henry. That grows here too. Used to be called Poor Man's Spinach. However, I'd like a closer look before I cooked it!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

It looks like a type of Atriplex (Orache), they're eaten all over Europe. There's a purple ornamental version grown in the UK.

It looks like the good king henry in my veg books or also New Zealand spinach, but it's got very thick fleshy almost succulent type leaves, and it's hard to tell from pictures in books. The Frenchman who used to own the house picked the leaves and ate it to show my friend it was edible, but not understanding french... It could be animal fodder, but he kept no animals so maybe not. It just tasted like plant, but it looks familiar. It is in the middle of france, neither north nor south!!! Thanks for your help anyway!Comment

I bought a packet of seeds with a very similar picture on the front. Mine were Tetragonia perpetual spinach! Check out the Seeds of Italy website - apparantly this is very fashionable in Italy at the moment.Comment
