    mystery garlic

    I have raised beds that were new last year. Very early this year when I was getting the soil ready clearing any debris I noticed some healthy looking green stems (about 7) packed closely together. they looked most like early daffodils so I shifted them into the borders thinking the masses of birds we have in the garden must have dropped some bulbs...or something?!
    They never flowered and I pulled one up today and they look like spring onions with a hint of dark purple on the bulb, but smell very strongly of garlic they were found in the carrot bed so I'm very confused! Any thoughts and how they got there? and more importantly do you think I can eat them?

    Hi Glut, Maybe you could post a picture of them? would be easier to work out exactly what they are?!

      What did you add to your raised beds to fill them up ?
      The proof of the growing is in the eating.
      Leave Rotten Fruit.
      Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.

        I will try and find the camera so that I can post a picture...hmmm if only I kept things where they are supposed to be...
        The beds were filled with a mix of compost from my own bin, some from the garden centre and a bit of top soil from the borders.

          Maybe they are garlic. A full bulb left in the soil will have several shoots. Did you grow garlic last year? or put some compost on that might have had a bulb in it?

            I did grow garlic last year but in a different part of the garden...perhaps i shifted some soil and forgot?! some days nothing would surprise me!
