  • My onions have bolted, will they still form onions good enough to eat ??

I planted some red onion sets last September , they have gone through the winter no problem. They had started to swell but I spotted the other day they have sent up seed pods. I removed the pods straight away. Is it worth letting them carry on growing?? Will the bulbs swell to full onion size or should I pull them now and discard ??

It will have been a flower bud you saw developing and were right to nip it off. Onions which have started to bolt can tend to have a thick "neck", can be a little hollow in the centre and so don't store as well. So use these up first and they are fine to eat.

Hi, thanks. Will the onions continue to grow even after producing a flower bud ???

Yes, quite often you get all onion growing beside the flower stem.
