  • my kitchen garden

    hi all, new to site & new to growing, this is going to be my kitchen garden (hopefully). its on a bit of unused garden at the side of my house, i started building the raised beds today each is 10 inch high, soil is due monday but due to work i can't get it in until the weekend below is a little drawing of my patch any comments on what to put were would be great, ace site by the way

        Yes second picture was better. Looks a good use of the space. Which way is north? What surrounds the site, e.g. Fence, house etc.

          hi Wendyc, there is a hedge there at the moment on one side, the other side is the house ill upload some pictures tomorrow when hopefully most of the beds will be build, with the hedge and house there will be some shade throughout the day but this was the only space i could have lol

            I looked at your plan and saw "space not used" and all I coud think of was greenhouse

                Id say thats not many spuds!

                  Lack of light looks to be a problem, The more you can lower that hedge the better. You may have to grow things that dont rquire full sunsine.

                    plan is to take hedges down an replace with fence in time just wanting to get things started asap

                        some more from today, looks like i need to buy some more wood ill arrange a delivery this week whilst at work, hopefully next weekend all bed will be in and full with soil :-)

                          Looks good but............how are you going to get to the hedge to chop it down, without trampling on your beds?

                            theres a path other side of the hedge, we not long moved into house so the hedge is going to go, I'm thinking chainsaw along all the bases then put up a little fence, other option is cut it right back as theres around a meter or more from one side of hedge to the other.

                              Ahah - you have a cunning plan
                              What plants are in the hedge? Is it privet or a mixture? Some hedging plants thrive on being cut back - others sulk and look dreadful.
