  • My Garden at Last

So having moved house two weeks ago, I now have my garden sorted and looking half decent
Finished putting the greenhouse together and glazed it, used silicone to make sure the windows aren’t going anywhere.
How does everyone keep their greenhouse temps down when the weather gets hot?
Last Sunday, the temps were touching on 30degC outside and it peaked at 48 in the greenhouse for the 5mins I had to have the door closed so could put some silicone on the inside. That was highly unpleasant! Was at that point I soaked the floor and put some fleece on the roof which made a big difference.
But it still seemed too hot in there, and think the cucumbers suffered a bit, went very wilty as soon as I put them in there, they picked up again when the temps came down though. But now many of the leaves have a slightly crispy white edge. Deffo a bit scorched!

In the long containers are garlic, and the big wooden pallet is filled with onions, the 2 smaller pallets are going to have lettuce/rocket in. Nothing in the borders yet, but they don’t get a whole lot of sun so I’m thinking they might be good for broccoli and kale? Is there anything else that does well in shady spots? I’ve still parsnips and carrots to sow so if these would fair alright would be great!
Thinking I’m going to put the water butt where the BBQ is and hook up some guttering from the greenhouse.

Looking great TattyJJ - soooo tidy!

I put shading up on the greenhouse roof when it starts to get really hot (one of the things I meant to do this weekend and didn't). Also got a self opening vent which saves having to remember to open the window first thing in the morning.

I have an auto thingy on the window too. Was looking at getting a louvre panel with one as well, but was too expensive.

Ha it might be tidy now, but only because 2 weeks ago it was an empty blank canvas. I'm pretty sure it won't last

I find shading paint a bit of a faff, it's easier to throw some debris netting over the roof.

Thats tidier than my front room!

My greenhouse is partially in the dappled shade of an elderflower tree.
In springtime the tree only just leafing up so casts no shade when I'm starting seedlings but this time of year it keeps it all nice a cool in there.

Of course, the three broken panes and the missing door help with ventilation too

No way is my shiny new greenhouse getting covered with shading paint
The fleece seemed to work quite well, and is easy to take down and put back should i be in a fickle mood.

The garden is really quite small, and all paved over, so really not very hard to keep tidy. But if it's any consolation my front room is still a state with boxes waiting to be unpacked in every corner! But ya know, priorities....

Honestly no need to be jealous, this is literally all the garden I have to work with!
It's a shame as really limits how much can be grown.
