  • My first cucumber harvested today :):):)

Well tonight we had the first cucumber of our plant ..quite supprised ..was very crunchy and very very watery but with a sweat flavour ..does taking the first one make the plant encourage the growth of others to fatten up ??

So pleased with my self .first attempt at cucumbers and was worried they would be difficult to grow but it's been a very willing and agreeable plant and has encouraged me to try a few more variatys next year.. Will post pic soon

        WOW!

Is that in a greenhouse or coldframe? Mine are outdoorsies and are roughly she size of a very small thing at present!

I like cucumber, but not enough to buy it regularly at the prices the supermarkets want to charge, so this year I'm planning to gorge myself in summer then just do without most of the year. Tomatoes now, much as there's nothing to compare with own grown toms, I still can't do without them outside of the season! I KNOW they taste nothing like, but I still love them.

There's only one thing that goes well with a fresh cucumber.... A bottle of Pimms!

Germinator, with regards to your question, yes remove all fruit as soon as it is ready otherwise the plant will think its done its job of reproducing and stop. As a general rule this is true of all fruit bearing plants, including beans, peas etc.

I like the cucumber very much, But there are no cucumber good enough like yours...... Besides the price of cucumber always change. It is a good idea to grow by myself.
