i was thinking of trying just one and see how it goes ?

They need hardening off whenever you decide to plant them out. I'd give them at least a week of living in a cold frame, and then some days of just being outside.

They're hardy little plants. I sowed some Evesham special in September or it might have been October. They were all planted out over the winter, going straight from blow away to ground, the first three plants had plastic cloche protection because it was seriously cold. The others I planted out in February with no protection (I think it was 4 or 6 degrees?) & a bit of BFB round the lot of them. The first two are a lot bigger than the newly planted ones,so they've done well in the cold months with colder soil rather than being in a pot,the later planted ones just need to catch up,be careful with wind rock though in this weather, plant as deep as you can.
