  • Mushrooms - in for a Pound

Spotted a small box of grow your own mushrooms on the high street for a quid and thought if give it a try, they've been hiding in their box for ten days now!

Has anyone grown them from these kits before? If so do you have any tips? Were they any good? Would I have been better off spending my quid at the store?!

I'm thinking I should be keeping the in my allotment shed rather that the back bedroom tho!

I too bought one of these from a well known pound emporium - just to see. It's been "cooking" for 10 days now and there nothing is happening except some thready looking white fluff at one corner.

I tried some from local store, disaster.

I think it is critical that they are fresh, and perhaps that they have not been stored at low/high temperatures (I don't think the tin-shed of my local garden centre is likely to be warm in winter and cool in summer )

I've bought some mailorder, assuming that their turnover would be better (the more unusual types, rather than just button mushrooms) and had good enough results, but cost of carriage for something heavy like "soil"! is an issue, particularly if not buying something else at the same time, so I've tended to only buy them when I was buying, say, a bunch of seeds - rather than when I actually wanted the mushrooms!

If all else fails, add the soil to your greenhouse, you can guarantee if you don't want them to grow there they will...
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I had a bash "Last Year"

              Pleasently Suprised!

They were lovely in a Sunday Morning "Brunch"

And I got 3 servings per box!

I think the plan is to keep em moist!

              I'd certainly do em again!
