    Mushroom identification

    Hi all,

    I was watering my strawberry patch earlier and noticed something strange lurking beneath the mass of new growth. Mushrooms. I'm trying to grow some mushrooms for eating in another part of the garden, but these mushrooms aren't those mushrooms. I've had a look online but can't seem to identify them. They're still only small and slender and their domes are a slightly stoney colour. Any ideas? Can i eat them? Are they safe or am i lilkely to end up tasting colours and smelling sounds? lol



    I'm going to leave them to grow i think. They can only be beneficial to the strawberries carn't they?

    You can eat the ones from Tesco! For others be very sure.....

      Sorry- we can't go into whether a mushroom might be edible on here. If you're needing to ask- then keep well away!
      Mushrooms are an interesting subject - so I'll leave this thread open for now- but please folks- no trying to ID for eating/alternative uses!

      Out of interest- if it were in my garden- I could take it to a pharmacy and they'd ID it for me!...brill or what!

        Don't eat any mushrooms your unsure of see tastes and smell sounds would be the last of your worries about one in fifteen mushrooms that grow in the uk are edible and the reast are very poisonous I would not be willing to risk my life on the advice of an I'd from a small picture I put up on a web site .. My mind is cast back to a couple how moved to the country a while ago now who decided to go out picking fresh berries and made a crummble back at home only to spend the next few months of there lifes in hospital and finish up with massive health problames for the rest of there lifes because the berries they had picked for said crumble turned out to be deadly nightshade .. Need I say more??? Pls leave well alone!!!

          Have a read at this...and he was an expert . Unless your 110% sure of what your eating...like Germinater has said "Leave well alone".

          Looks nice to eat doesn't it? Just goes to show that looks can be very deceiving. This is the deadly Amanita ocreata mushroom.

            In all fairness, I don't think he was an expert

            If you don't know what a mushroom is, don't pick it up, don't use anything to cut it, that you may use on an edible mushroom and if you do, wash your hands!

                They must be feeding off some of the rotting organic matter in your strawberry bed. They won't cause direct harm to your strawbs but they will use some of the nutrients.
                You may want to keep an eye open for that.

                  Ah, i'll get rid then. I'm not going to eat them, whether i know what they are or not, it's a risk i'm not willing to take. Cheers

                    One good thing though- it does show that your strawberries have a good damp mulch!!!
