  • Mounding Potatoes

    Hi Guys,

So I planted my spuds and a few leave came out on 3. I was advised to only mound the stalks and leave the leaves out. However yesterday after what must have been frost these leaves have reduces to a dark green shrivel . So ......do you cover the whole lot and keep covering so you cannot see anything?

Half my chillies in the greenhouse also shriveled away to nothing but they where in a draft area. Was this the frost also?

This gardening business is harder than it looks

    Thanks

If a frost is forecast then you could place newspaper over the haulms but that depends on how big the spuds have got. If they are small (as they should be now), then I'd cover them with earth to form a ridge. Eventually you won't be able to make the ridge any higher (~30cm) and by then the frosts have ended. Ridges are the recommended method for spuds.
