  • Mouldy Garlic

For the first time ever. I bought garlic from a garden centre rather than a supermarket.
Of those I planted, not one showed any sign of growing.
Went to the cupboard to try again and was met by a gloopy mess, checked my plantings and the same.
Anyone else had problems like this ?
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

When buying garlic it pays to have a good examination of the bulbs for any softness but especially for blue or discoloured cloves. Fungal problems are rife in the autumn with the cool damp conditions so moulds multiply quickly.
The bulbs could have been infected with white rot as well............mine were because they were planted in soil that I didn't know had white rot in it!
It would probably have been infected plants that brought it to my soil originally!
Hopefully it's just been the crap autumn!

PS Just re read your post and realised your unplanted stuff was rotten as well........possibly white rot? Google it!

When did you buy it? If it was fairly recently I'd go back to the supplier and complain! You might get something as a gesture of goodwill if nothing else

I can only assume that the bulbs were mouldy or fungally infected somehow before you got them home.
I agree with Maureen as well, I would complain.

Definitely take or post them back, with a stiff letter.
I've never had White Rot before ... but this year I got it from certain onion sets* bought from a certain chain store, that won't be getting my money again

*it wasn't in all my sets, just one or two varieties.
