Miracle grow or tomarite for toms

Personally, I use 'own brand' Tomato food or 'Home Brew' I thought Miracle Grow was for Flowering plants, ie ornamentals, not Veg. but I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

I usually use comfrey or worm tea but if I buy then I always use tomato food (usually own brand though) as it's designed for fruiting plants such as toms, peppers etc.

Miraclegro is fine for leafy veg, but you need something like Tomorite for tomatoes and chillies. Own brand tomato feed should be fine.

I use Wilkinson's own tomato feed. I seem to remember I compared the NPK with another one on the shelf and found it about the same, if not better. I also use my home made comfrey tea and sometimes some seaweed feed. Before the toms flowered, I used Miracle Grow (that was way back before I drowned them).

Firefly, if its not to late check the NPK on the wilkos stuff. It was great last year but I seem to remember a grape checked it out earlier this year and it had changed with lower potash content which is exactly the stuff you are after. I checked the Depots this year and found the formulation very similar to the more expensive stuff.

I checked the stuff in pound land a while back but the npk was awfull almost more like a balanced fertiliser than a fruiting feed .found the concentrated j arther bowels Tom feed just the same npk as tomatorite and almost half the price .

I use it, but can't tell you how effective it is since I tend to be a bit erratic, never measure amounts anyway, and also use comfrey, BFB and seaweed. It certainly doesn't do any harm.

Davy, If I remember correctly Doff's NPK is 4-5-8 which should be OK for toms any many other plants.

If I am right its dilution rate is 15mls to 7 ltrs which gives a heck of a lot of feed for a quid.

And then you're supposed to split the 7 litres between 12 plants...

Sylvan, you are quite correct but me being idle I tend to fill the pot to just before overflowing, then move on to the next and so on until the can is empty. Don't think I have ever got more than 5/6 pots from one can.

At least you use the correct strength of solution.
I can't lift a full sized watering can so I tend to use a houseplant one with a splash of food added to the water.

Terribly unscientific.
