    Hello!
I am thinking about the idea of a melon plant or two.
Dose anyone have any easy variety's they can recommend?
And any other hints and tips will be greatly appreciated

    Best wishes

I tried them last year and although the plants looked healthy I got no fruit. I think they need plenty of heat to succeed and we had a crap summer up here.

Going to give them another shot this year with varieties: Charentais and Ogen.

I'm trying to grow melons this year for the first time too - I got seduced by a pack of mixed seeds in B&M!

So far I've got 1 Honeydew and 5 Canteloupe seedlings. All growing very well and looking strong at the moment. I suppose time will tell if we get a decent summer.

I'm assuming they'll need to be grown in the GH?

My selection is Malali and Sweetheart. I tried last year but I planted about four pumpkin plants in the greenhouse that were 'surplus to requirements' down the allotment. They took over and although I got some good pumpkins I never saw the melons ! ! ! (I still have two pumpkins left)! Cheers, Tony.
