    mango seed.

    Has anyone tried or succeeded in growing a mango tree in the north of the uk?

    Im trying to grow one I sowed it on 8th of aug and have just left it to grow, still nothing but thought Id just see if anyone else has tried xx

    mango is a typical tropical climatic plant.. You wont be able to grow it successfully anywhere in U.K ( i guess). The germination of a mango seed requires warm and moist environment and is usually done at the start of summer. The mango plants typically start taking damage under 5 degree celcius.

            I accidentally grew one!! I put the seed from a mango in the compost bin (black darlek) and thought no more about it. About three months later, I decided to turn the compost and whilst doing so noticed something growing. I thought it was the usual sprouting potato skin and pulled it out to find the mango seed firmly attached at the bottom! Needless to say, I potted it up in some homemade compost (as it obviously liked it) and it grew really well - getting to about two feet tall! Unfortunately I forgot to take it in when the weather turned and it did not survive the winter. I've had several avocado stones do this too. My best attempt at cultivating one of theses is now seven feet tall - lives outside and has survived two quite harsh winters!
