  • Mangetout Rodney !! oh and squash !

    Hi all,

I have been weeding one of my raised beds today with the idea of planting my mangetout and butternut squash out.

I have posted pics of the mangetout and butternut squash.

The mangetout are about 1 ft lond and twisting round themselves a bit and the squash are between 4 and 8" tall.

Is it too early to plant them out and how much room does one butternut squash plant need??

    thanks all,

    Graham

ps they are in my conservatory at the mo in a greenhouse which has brought them on nicely.

Your seed packet should give spacing instructions... it's roughly 3ft between squash plants. Yes, it's too early, they are only babies.

Try moving the mini greenhouse(if you can) to outside during the day and even leaving the whole lot outside when/if its mild over night (fixing the whole greenhouse from blowing away!) as more light will help them grow strong and thick, rather than thin and lanky, if they havn't got full light during the day.
Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray, seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!

The peas should be fine by now - my mangetout have been out for a month. Harden them off first though - give them daytimes outside for a week first.
Butternut will die if they get frosted so wait till after your last predicted frost date.

Mangetout are rock hard, and those look raring to be planted out!
