    Mange tout misbehaving

    Anyone else having problems with mange tout is year? I am growing two varieties, both I'd which I have grown before. Oregon and Shiraz. They are in containers in my garden and started really well. However, the last few weeks, the pods do not grow very long at all and the peas inside start to swell very quickly. I have some pods only an inch long with a fully grown pea inside! If I'm going to pick them befor the peas swell, I'll have to pick them verry small indeed.

    Anyone else having similar problems?

    No - sorry. I am having mange tout every day at the minute.

      I wonder ifit's the very hot weather. Will try to water more often I think and perhaps give a feed with nettle tea.

        I am having the exact same problem with Shiraz. At first I thought it was supposed to be that small, but my other half's parents are growing the same variety and they said that their pods are a good size. I am guessing it's the heat and container that is stressing them out. My best performer is Sweet Horizon, with big fat juicy pods that remain edible even with fully grown peas inside.

          I grew Shiraz last year in containers and they were absolutely fine. Yes, I think more water and I might try to put up a bit of shade over them somehow.
