after weeks of cold weather and seedlings taking ages to sprout, the heatwave has fried loads of my seedlings ..... guess they just weren't big and strong enough to survive the heat ....
lost my 3rd lot of cucumbers, the watermelons, pumpkins, most of 2 trays of sweet peppers, most of our chillies, 40+ brassicas and probably loads more .... the 5th sowing of sweetcorn was the only sowing that sprouted .... 15 sown, 8 sprouted, 2 looking a bit crispy now ....
almost a disaster with the weather this year ....
all i need now is a frost to kill off all the spuds and toms ....

          Looking good, dude....looking good!

Very tidy too, is it only me who grows in a random dirty mess?
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

My celery has picked up after getting fried and looking close to terminal. Was ready to cry.

I was talking with a gardening mate last night and he reckons the weather has made it the most difficult year he has had in 50 years of gardening.

Thanks Pa. As to tidy it is easy to be tidy when everything is in a pot.

I'm not so sure about that but it certainly seems to be working for you...I have messy, untidy pots!

Looking impressive Colin....potatoes look v healthy...
Warm weather has certainly helped put on a growth spurt...my onions, parsnips, turnips, beetroot and potatoes have all grown strongly in last few weeks..Carrots less so for some reason...
As others say, it is easy tho to lose seedlings in this heat...I have lost sweetcorn ones so far and am now back germinating a few things in the house!!! Just when I was getting all the plants etc out
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Love the sun, hate the watering. The weather has certainly been strange this year. It's good that what has survived is coming on now.

Don't think its a cost thing i would not dare tot up the cost of the compost i have had to purchase...it's more about the satisfaction and feeling of one's own wellbeing that negates the cost...unless it goes to excess :P
