I took on my first plot about seven years ago, the two things I've been meaning to grow from the start but never got around to are Asparagus and Comfrey. Maybe just as well as I no longer have that first plot.

I made my asparagus bed a couple of weeks ago.

The plants are now in the postal system,i found a few more so shared out, roots included as they will send up shoots if planted in a pot for now,
Last year they were only aprox 1in bits, shoved in anywich way up,and have over wintered in several seed trays,i thought they were dead, but are very alive and kicking, they grow very quick from spring, die of into the ground in winter,so you maybe need to mark where you put them happy growing peeps,

some are to big for 3in pots, when they arrive, separate them so you can see what you have, put bit's of root into a suitable size pot, until you have green leaves aprox., 3in tall, then either put in the ground or a bigger pot, they will how ever still grow if put bits straight into the ground, but you will not know where they are,by putting into pots first, the bit's get a good start where you can see them, but deffinatly plant them into the soil as soon as big enough,as they will establish better before winter,I was tolled to space them aprox 2ft apart, but maybe others will know better than me,and give them a good drink below the soil before you put all the dry soil back around plant,

I would say that 2ft is too close. I did mine at 3ft and even that is a bit tight. They do spread a little bit each year as the roots grow.
