  • Lime

    Hi Experts

I have taken the day off work to do a few things and one of my plans for the day was to replant some cabbage plants.

Just a quick question, do cabbage's like lime? I was thinking about putting a dusting of lime in the space before i replant my little babies BUT i dont want to if they dont like it!

    Tah

Yes because they like a alkaline soil, but dont lime if you have recently manured

This year I'm trying magnesium limestone which is brown and not as 'harsh' as garden lime!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Oh i dont think i have ever seen magnesium limestone in our only garden centre? Mind saying that its all very new to me!

I have started off a whole bunch of plants which should cope with the winter, winter cabbages, caulies, swede and other bits and pieces. Though saying winter plants, its Feb at the moment so were coming into the end of our summer technically speaking, but due to climate changes the summers seem to start later and finish later. With this then its my hope that these new plants get a good start.

The other day i checked my cold frame and found all my cauli plants laying on there side looking mighty dead because it was incredibly hot that day, i went to work and didnt think to lift the lid!!!
