Now I don't know about anyone else, but I've got some spares, and if we all send him different things, he can clear the new plot in the next few weeks and still have a growing season. Just so that he doesn't get 50 tomato plants and nothing else, I thought we might list what we've got spare, and when we can send it. Please sign up below, and either I or Steve will PM you the address to send it to

    Hi

I'm new to this forum, well lurked a while but not posted. You are all so friendly. I can spare some strawberry plants. They are little but I would be happy to send you some if they will help. Think I would be a bit rubbish at sending other seedlings at the moment.

    Good luck!

Really sorry, but I'm so far behind with my own stuff , coz of my ankle, I don't think I can be much help this time.
Just wanted to say good luck Stephen.

Stupid question but how do you send seedlings? I'm not sure what I've got a glut of yet as I have onl;y just started but if I have anything I'd be happy to share.

Without meaning to sound too harsh,It is only the 1st of april so surely he still has plenty of time to get seeds on the go whilst he clears the plot?

It might be a better idea to send seeds, anyway, knowing what the post is like sometimes!

happy to send any seeds i have, perhaps if you could get the poor chap to list what he needs, also whereabouts is he, i know if he was round the corner from me i'd happily wander over and lend a hand for a couple of hours

Don't have any seedlings I'm afraid - I'm seemingly behind myself. I'm happy to send seeds if I have any, trouble is, I gave pretty much all my surplus away in the seed swap.

I'll let you know if I've got owt.

I have tons of seeds to spare - it would make sense for Stephen to say what he wants rather us send him tons of stuff he doesn't want.

I agree that if Stephen is able to list the kind of things he want that'd be a great idea. I'm happy to help with a few seeds and/or seedlings, but also wonder how well these would post.

It's a great thread Hashette, and a fine example of the good works of the Vine .

I think I would try - wrapping their roots in very damp kitchen roll, then either cling film or tin foil over that - then place in an egg box, yes this will squish down, but it should give some protection.

I'd say way better to send him seeds - as has been said above, plenty of time for seed sowing.

I've sent seedlings before now using water bottles with their bottoms cut off. Stick the root end through the bottle neck with the actual foliage "inside" the bottle (obviously having discarded the lid), wrap the roots in damp kitchen roll, then tying a small plastic bag over the bottle top with an elastic band.

The plant is protected by the bottle "body", and the roots are kept moist in the plastic bag.

                          Does that all make sense?
