  • Leek Confusion

    Hello all,

I am know here and new to allotmenteering.

Actually I get my first plot tomorrow and and so looking forward to mucking straight in!

In egerness I went out yesterday to the garden center and brought some onion sets, small red cabbage plants and some leeks.

I found out what to do with the onions and cabages but and a bit confused about the leeks. Is it too late to put out the leeks now? They are still selling them so I took it as being OK but when searching only for instructions to plant them out in the autumn I couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

Well I would make a hole with a dibber or end of broom handle and drop them a few inches in, then fill the hole with water and let them settle on their own.
    They will have 2 chances!

I have started harvesting mine planted out in summer - are you sure yours are not ready to eat lol?

      Welcome to the vine burtie!

Dibble holes 6 to 8 inches apart and drop in the leeks (green side up!) Fill holes with water and make sure none have floated to the surface................and thats it!

It is a wee bit late but now you've bought them the quicker you get them into the soil the better!
