    Leaves!...it's that time again folks!

    Just thought I'd start a thread again for everyone to post how many bags of leaves they have collected - so you can keep a record and refer back next year if you wish?

    What can be better than loads of free compost eh???


    Come on- post as you bag up...lets see how many peeps can collect!

      It looks easy to do. The only thing that puts me off is reading that it can take up to 2 years for it to all mulch down properly. However the FREE side of it is appealing
      LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

        I put mine into a cage while I'm gathering them then the following year they get bagged up and put behind the shed for further year, that way my cage is ready to be filled again.

            ZERO!!! i have nothing that sheds a leaf. Nor is there anywhere around here apart from a couple of almond leaves that amount to nothing.

            I loved walking through the countryside kicking up leaves and watching the dogs run through, but no zero here.
            I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

              I knew there was something else I popped into the supermarket for! I forgot to pick up some cheap bin bags instead I came out with proper butter!! I can't wait for my toast in the morning.

              So far I've got one bag full and the rest in a tub ready to go in bags.
              I can't wait to see if it works.

                I dont get any leaves as such in my garden to collect but there is a path behind my house that has loads, I got some old hessian sacks from work apparently they are the best to put leaves in?
                I think I might go out with the kids and get them to pick all the leaves up, at least then it looks like we are all nuts together!

                  Gosh...I've always read that plastic ones are the best.
                  Where did you hear/ read about that?
                  Don't they dry out or do you have to keep wetting them?

                    That's a good idea, I may have to copy you.

                    There are tons falling down around here, but they're all down the road from me, or around the corner on the main road, and I feel a bit weird going and raking outside other people's houses.

                        No leaves to speak of here, just a few small bushes, nowhere near enough to fill a bag. I'm always wary of collecting leaves from the roadside as they have probably been choked with exhaust fumes, and taking them from other people's property without permission feels like stealing. I did get one opportunity a couple of years back when my Mum's gardener was off sick and I collected a couple of bags of leaves from her garden, but nowadays he rakes them up before I can get at them.

                        I still have the bags of leaves from 2 years ago - they have shrunk tremendously in size, but a peep at them during the summer showed that they were not fully rotted yet. Patience required!

                          Im sure it was on the tv, it was said that because the rain and air can get through that it creates leave mold quicker?
                          You recon its wrong?
                          Might experement with both see which one come make the mold quicker..

                            No idea!...certainly worth a go!
                            Personally I don't like the idea of plastic...so it'd be interesting to see if the Hessian works!
