  • Leaf miner

Hi, looks like I've got leaf miner larvae in my young beetroot and chard plants, they aren't big enough yet to pick. If I cut the affected areas off the growing plant will it survive or should I get rid of the whole plant to stop them spreading? I have planted stuff far to close together so that probably hasn't helped, my first proper year of growing veg and I got carried away.....

Not too much of a problem on your beets unless you want to eat the leaves. I think I'd remove the affected leaves and see how it goes. You could thin the plants at the same time if you think they are too close. So tempting to pack plants in, you should see what I cram in at home and at the allotment!
