Late peas

sow your maincrop peas March-June for harvesting July-October (they take about 15 weeks from sowing to eating)

I've just sown some Hurst Greenshaft. here are some other maincroppers: Pea - Maincrop Seeds, Pea - Maincrop Varieties, Vegetable Seeds

My Greenshafts will do well in this "summer" weather then!

You will be better of growing early peas now as they mature quicker. Feltham first I find is a good one.

i've just put some more in today, in a few spaces where they hadn't grown, so fingers crossed, if they don't grow its only a few seeds

Yes, good point. Perhaps they should be renamed "quick" rather than "early"

I've just picked what looks like the last of my peas too

. It was the first time trying them so I didn't do too many and they had to go and taste scrumptious

! I hedged my bets last week and scattered a few more of the KW peas, hopefully I'll get a few more.

My Kelvedon Wonder are just beginning to fill their pods and my Hurst Greenshaft are climbing up their netting. I plan to sow another 250m of Hurst Greenshaft towards the end of this week and then a late sowing of Kelvedon Wonder at the end of the month.

I've always found that "Alderman" gives a good late crop.

I trust Sewer Rat's opinion ~ that'll be some more peas going in then! I never knew how much I liked ... podding them. Even more than eating them. It's so relaxing.

The only problem that I had with sowing a late batch of peas (kelvedon wonder - sown mid July 07) was the powdery mildew which sent them all white!

Ended up not eating many of them fresh, but saved a bucketful of seed for this year.
